I want to thank everyone for being a part of this amazing journey that started in 2009. A Mother’s Wish, (AMW) was created by a small group of my friends that wanted to support me and my son Thomas, who was thirteen at the time of his diagnosis with Crohn’s Disease. The truth is that he really started having the pain and problems from the Disease when he was just three years old. Over the last 10 years, more Mothers with children dealing with Crohn’s disease have joined AMW. We all started out as strangers fighting the same fight. Now we have become family. We cry with each other, check up on each other, and laugh together. The work we are doing is hard, really hard. We are all too busy to be doing this work. However, we are not willing to stand by and watch our children suffer without doing our very best to be part of the solution. A Mother’s Wish is the most rewarding work I have ever done!
Here is what we have been up to this past year, without all of you, none of this would be possible:
We have been sending C.O.P.E.S bags to families which provide them with items needed to help them manage the disease in their day to day activities.
We have joined CHOP in their Microbiome research and pledged $25K to help get answers and cures for our children.
We have joined University of Pennsylvania with Dr. Gary Wu in their Microbiome research and pledged $25K to get answers and cures for our children when they become adults.
We sent 25 scholarships to CCFA’s Camp Oasis which allowed children with Crohn’s to have a safe place to be a kid and go to a camp they otherwise could never attend.
We continue to be a place where people call us for support, listen to their trials and tribulations, concerns, and heart breaking stories.
Our own Heather Wickersham took on the very first annual AMW walk and was able to bring over 500 people to this event. We are so proud of all our Mom’s and the families and friends that make all of these amazing successes possible!
